College and Career Readiness
In addition to facilitating college to high school mentorship, PALS prepares our youth for post-secondary education and career success
using a multi-faceted approach to help students engage in school and envision their futures. PALS supports students in career readiness
in collaboration with Student Support Services, guidance counselors, and social workers at Lowell High School.

Academic Support
PALS tracks students' grades and attendance to provide academic support as needed. Our mentors lead drop-in tutoring sessions to provide individual attention to students seeking assistance in a particular subject. We organize MCAS review sessions to assist students in passing the MCAS exam. PALS staff also helps students through the college application process by researching schools, identifying scholarships, and supporting mentors in sharing their expertise.

Career Support
PALS encourages students to consider their career options and begin to plan their post-secondary path. We help them through this process by offering resume-building opportunities, providing avenues to connect students to their interests, and collaborating with the career center. Eligible PALS seniors can also find a paid externship in their spring semester, allowing them to work part-time in a field relevant to their goals and begin to make professional connections. In the past, students have been placed at a beauty salon, public counsel, and City Hall.

Educational Exploration and Engagement
PALS values exploration and engagement outside of the classroom. Our field trips, open to youth and their mentors, are a chance for PALS to have fun and learn new things together. We've gone to Boston, attended Lowell Winterfest, participated in a scavenger hunt at UMass Lowell, and visited the Audobon Society.
